Your smile is important to us! We want each of our patients to keep all of their teeth, but in some cases, it may be in the best interest of their oral health to pull the tooth. Should we need to perform a tooth extraction, we will work to make sure it is as painless and stress-free as possible.
A tooth extraction involves the administration of local anesthesia to the site of the problematic tooth. If needed, laughing gas is also available. Once the site is numb, our dental professionals will use a dental tool called an elevator to loosen the tooth, and will then pull the tooth using a forceps. The actual extraction will often only take a few seconds, but the most important part of a tooth extraction is the recovery.Once your tooth is removed, our dental professionals will have you bite down on a gauze pad for 20 to 30 minutes. This will help facilitate a blood clot, which can be difficult to form in the mouth since it is hard to keep dry. In the days to follow, it is important to avoid smoking and hot or chewy foods. If you experience swelling, place an ice pack on the outside of your cheek for 20 to 30 minutes at a time.
At The Hampton’s Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we aim to make our office a comfortable and stress-free environment. Should the need arise for a tooth extraction, be sure to take advantage of our unique amenities! We have blankets and pillow as well as flat-screen TVs in every patient room.
